Opening your own boutique has always been a dream but the long-term leases, extensive overhead, staffing, and finances have stood in the way, not to mention, if you are running a boutique, when would you make and find the products that you will sell! Julie McCullough Kim founder of the very successful Urban Street Bazaar, Make Shop & Studio and co-founder of The Pin Show - Independent Fashion Event has decided to evolve the outdoor event created in 2006 into a fulltime micro-boutique marketplace.
What is a micro-boutique marketplace?
Think of it as a 5000 sqft Indie Shopping Mall, providing you the opportunity to have the traffic, space, and advertising that a full size boutique does but for a fraction of the cost.....the cost of one Urban Street Bazaar ... if you will.
Where is this Indie Shopping Mall located?
IndieGenius is located in the Bishop Arts District in North Oak Cliff, home to an array of Independently owned businesses, boutiques, high end restaurants and local eateries, as well as many successful festivals and hyper-local events and grass roots movements.
Tell me about the features and benefits of a micro-boutique?

- You can keep your "real job"
Who is going to staff IndieGenius?
Boutique Tenants will have 4-8 volunteer hours each month, or they can opt to buy out those hours at $10.00 and other tenants can pick them up in the form of rent discount.
Who will shop this marketplace?
Besides the traffic that we have built over the years of hosting the Urban Bazaar and our shop Make in the Bishop Arts District, your show shoppers, we also have the luxury of being located in one of Dallas' hottest Independent shopping districts!
Can I man my own boutique during busy days to help increase my sales?
Yes! You are able to come in and work your boutique any time you'd like.
Are there any restrictions on build out of my boutique?
Yes, there are some, mostly to keep the space inviting and easy to shop. Request a specs sheet for things like Walls (we want to keep them uniform), and sample boutique layouts that we feel are inviting and helpful. You can also schedule a consultation with our staff or on-site stylist to help you design your space. One thing we want to prevent is over crowding and junky looking spaces. Other than that, you are free to be as creative with your boutique as you'd like.
When can designers stock their boutiques?
You will be able to stock your boutique any time you'd like!
Who pays sales tax?
IndieGenius can take care of this for you!
Can I share my boutique with another designer?
Just like the Urban Bazaar, we are allowing tenant shares on the the 10x10 and 10x5 booths, there is a small fee per month for that. Designers must apply separately and both be accepted.
How do I pay my rent?
You will remit your rent via paypal each month, no later than the 3rd at 5pm.
Are there any other costs?
If you take a booth space, there is a one time fee for walls, which we build for you, to divide your space from your neighbors. Then each 6 months there is a $20 maintence fee. There are some a la carte items available to you, such as fixtures, displays, extra electricity, walls, additional features in the advertising, etc. These are optional.
Is there a commission on my sales?
10%, this goes towards credit card fees, bags, boxes, and Advertising. Currently we are advertising in the Advocate Magazines, Dallas Hotel Magazine, and Online Marketing (facebook, google, newsletters)
How do I get paid?
We will be doing auto-payments to your paypal account. If you don't have a paypal account, talk to us and we'll discuss other options. There are no fees for paying you via paypal.
If you have additional questions, just email us: beindiegenius@gmail.com
